This is a discretionary service and the bank reserves the right not to pay items against insufficient funds, such as when your account is not in good standing or you are not making regular deposits or you have too many overdrafts. You will be responsible for making a deposit as soon as possible to bring your account back to a positive balance. Keeping up with your account Preventing overdrafts starts with proactively managing your finances — and it’s often as simple as checking your account once a month. An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but we pay it anyway. Frost offers a standard courtesy overdraft program as a way to cover a transaction when you don’t have enough money in your account. Depending on your overdraft coverage selection, we may: Pay the transaction and overdraw your account Decline or return the transaction if there are not enough funds available If we pay the transaction and it overdraws your account, you are responsible for repaying the negative balance. Fees may apply based on the overdraft coverage you selected. What is $100 overdraft grace? The $100 overdraft grace feature allows you to overdraw your account up to $100 or less without being charged an overdraft fee. If your overdrawn balance exceeds $100, overdraft fees may apply. We offer this feature on eligible Frost personal checking accounts to help customers avoid overdraft fees on small, unexpected expenses, but you’ll still need to repay any overdrawn amount. Please note, if you decline any type of overdraft coverage, this feature will not be available to you. How do I change my overdraft coverage? Your overdraft coverage options will be reviewed and decided at the time of account opening, but you can update your overdraft coverage at any time. To make a change, you can: Call us at (800) 513-7678 Log into Frost Online Banking → Account Services → Change card overdraft status Stop by your nearest financial center Mail your request to Frost, Attn: CIF, P.O. Box 1600, San Antonio, TX 78296 What happens if I decline all overdraft coverage? If you decline all coverage, this means you do not want us to authorize or pay any items that will overdraw your account, including checks, automatic bill payments and other withdrawals in addition to debit card transactions. Your transaction will be returned or declined. There is no fee for returned or declined transactions. You may incur merchant fees on items that are returned due to non-sufficient funds. Can pending transactions affect my available balance? Yes, pending transactions can affect your available balance. Even though they haven’t posted yet, they may reduce the amount of money available in your account. However, if your account has sufficient funds at the time you make a purchase, Frost won't charge an overdraft fee on that transaction — even if your account balance settles negative due to other subsequent transactions. Example: You have $100 available in your account and use your debit card to make a $50 purchase. The purchase is authorized because you have sufficient available funds but it still shows as pending. Later, other transactions post to your account and reduce your available balance before the $50 purchase is submitted for payment. Even though your account has a negative available balance when the purchase settles, Frost won't charge an overdraft fee on that $50 debit card transaction if there is an overdraft because you had sufficient available funds when it was authorized. What's the difference between overdraft fees and non-sufficient funds (NSF) fees? An overdraft fee occurs when we pay a transaction that exceeds your available balance, causing your account to go negative. A non-sufficient funds, or NSF, fee can occur when you don't have enough money in your account to cover a payment. While other financial institutions may charge a fee, Frost does not. However, vendors you are attempting to pay may charge their own fees. Expand all Try Frost checking or check your current overdraft coverage Explore accounts Check overdraft status
